St.
Patrick is the patron and saint of Ireland. Hi made his
job to convert the pagan Irish country to Christianity.
Patrick was quite successful at winning converts. And
this fact upset the Celtic Druids.
He traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries
across the country. He also set up schools and
churches. He died on March 17 in 461.
That
day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.
Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day
has evolved into more of a secular holiday.
Many
traditional Irish folklore symbols surrounds St. Patrick's
Day. The most popular is the shamrock.
Today
Irish people are proud of all their history, before and
after St. Patrick. They keep all their national symbols
alive: leprechauns, dragons, The wheel of Taranis, claddagh
rings, Celtic knots, all those creatures from ferry stories
and reality.
